The City of Gold will soon be seeing red. City Sightseeing, the brand that operates the open-top double-decker buses in around 100 cities across the globe, will begin tours in Johannesburg in January 2013.
City Sightseeing Johannesburg will run an exciting route through the Johannesburg CBD that will offer locals and tourist alike the chance to explore this vibrant city, visiting the many attractions on offer and sampling the sights, sounds, colours, cultures and rich heritage that are all synonymous with Jozi.
While the route is still being finalised, the bus will travel past Constitution Hill, Origins Centre, Newtown, the Apartheid Museum, the Transport Museum and Gold Reef City - taking in some historic buildings such as Ghandi Square, City Hall, the Gauteng Legislature, Barbican Building and the Rissik Street Post Office.
As with all City Sightseeing tours, Jo’burg will operate on a Hop-On, Hop-Off basis, allowing travellers the chance to get off the bus at any of the designated stops along the route and then get back on to a later bus at their leisure. Initially, the buses will run at 30 minute intervals so people are guaranteed frequent, safe and reliable transport that is cost effective, informative and fun for the entire family.
“The City Sightseeing tour promises to open up a whole new side of Johannesburg and in doing so will grow tourism spend whilst providing employment for local city residents, whilst turning passengers into passionate ambassadors for the golden metropolis,” says Claus Tworeck, CEO of City Sightseeing South Africa. “The tour will change people’s perceptions of the city of Johannesburg and offer both local and foreign visitors a unique way of exploring this fascinating city.
The City Sightseeing buses are a well-known feature worldwide and in South Africa already have an established, and much loved presence in Cape Town, where City Sightseeing operates as the first ever carbon neutral tour bus company.
Tours will start from 9am until late seven days a week. Tickets for the bus tours will cost R140, discounted if purchased online at www.citysightseeing.co.za.
