For overseas tourists flocking to South Africa for next year's 2010 World Cup, or local travellers simply exploring their own backyards, South Africa is blessed with some of the most beautiful landscapes on earth.

But why post your travels on Facebook when — as they say — a picture is worth a thousand words. To help you impress your friends with your travels across Mzansi, we've put together a list of 10 snapshots you simply have to add to your camera's memory card

Cape Point:
Cape Point boasts breathtaking views of rugged rocks and sheer cliffs which cut deep into the ocean. It might not be the geographical meeting point of the cold Benguela current in the West and the warm Agulhas to the East, but it's certainly the most dramatic Cape you'll find in SA. No wonder Sir Francis Drake called it "The fairest Cape in all the world"…
Where: Situated 65km Southwest of Cape Town.
Tips: With such majestic beauty there's never a bad time to photograph it, but it's always a good bet to wait for the soft light before sunset.

Table Mountain from Blouberg Beach:
Grab the iconic image of the Western Cape; the 'postcard shot' of the magnificent Table Mountain is best captured from the white sands of Blouberg Beach.
Where: Take the M14 and pull off between Big Bay and Table View Beach.
Tips: Anytime is good to capture this image, with the 'mood' of the mountain changing throughout the day. But be warned; there is little protection against the wind so you might need a steady hand or tripod to get the best shot.

Penguins at Boulders Beach:
This popular tourist spot offers more than just a great day out. Boardwalks over the sand allow you to get up close and personal to these quirky birds in their… um… penguin suits.
Where: Located on the Cape Peninsula, Boulders Beach is approximately 45 minutes drive from the city centre and is situated just after the naval port and picturesque village of Simon's Town.
Tips: To get the best possible shots of the penguins its best to view them from Foxy Beach, where the newly-constructed boardwalks take you to within a few metres of the birds.

Cango Caves:
The Cango Caves are one the world's great natural wonders. These stately caves, designed by nature over millions of years, boast some of the largest stalagmite formations in the world. Van Zyl's Hall, which is vast and well-illuminated, is definitely the cavern where you'll capture the finest images.
Where: This natural wonder is approximately 30km outside of Outshoorn in the Klein Karoo.
Tips: Take a tripod for long exposures too. If you're not afraid of small spaces and consider yourself to be in decent shape then the adventure tour is highly recommended.

Surfers on Durban's North Beach:
The busiest of the beaches on the Golden Mile, North Beach has beautiful sand and surf breaks, not to mention a host of alternative attractions along the beachfront.
Where: North Beach can be found north of Durban Harbour in between Bay of Plenty and Dairy Beach.
Tips: The best way to sum up Durban and perhaps even North Beach is to photograph the many surfers while they ride the waves or dash with their boards into surf. Take off your shoes and wade in a little to get closer to the action.

Knysna Heads:
These striking geological features, which guard the peaceful lagoon from the ocean, offer a breathtaking vantage point of the Garden Route's tourism hotspot. The lagoon and the beautiful sandstone cliffs can be photographed from the lookout erected on the Eastern Head.
Where: Situated on the famous Garden Route, Knysna is a five-hour drive east of Cape Town.
Tips: The ultimate experience is to view The Heads aboard the Zakat, a catamaran which navigates downstream through The Heads and continues out to sea.

Namaqualand flowers:
The blossoming of the Namaqualand flowers is one of South Africa's natural wonders, springing from the arid plains each year into a blaze of colour and blooms.
Where: The Namaqualand spring flowers are found north of Cape Town. The main roads on the flower route are the N7 north via Clanwilliam to Springbok.
Tips: Make your way up to Springbok and then drive the route back down to Cape Town: the flowers always face the sun so you'll be able to capture the full beauty of Spring. The flowers blossom between August and September.

Hector Pieterson Memorial:
Capture a sense of SA's troubled past at this memorial to the young protestors who were slain during the 1976 Soweto uprising. The memorial is situated just two blocks away from where Pieterson was killed, and offers visitors a moving and thought-provoking experience.
Where: The memorial can be found in Orlando West in Soweto.
Tips: The museum offers a range of photographic and video displays, so allow plenty of time to wander.

Big Five - Kruger National Park:
No trip to Africa would be complete without a safari and no safari trip would be complete without a few shots of the Big Five. One of the best wildlife parks on the African continent and the best in Southern Africa, the Kruger National Park offers visitors the Big Five and much, much more…
Where: The Park is situated 500km east of Johannesburg in the province of Mpumalanga.
Tips: The dry winter months from May through to August are the best time to spot animals, as the bushveld has thinned out and you will be able to spot animals as they come to waterholes in the mornings and evenings.

Drakensberg with snow:
The Drakensberg Mountains are the highest in Southern Africa and offer some of South Africa's most spectacular vistas, whether you choose to lace up your hiking boots or enjoy the view from the myriad hotels and campsites dotted across the region.
Where: This World Heritage site is approximately 250km north-west of Durban on the border of Lesotho.
Tips: If you fancy a special Drakensberg experience, take a trip in winter when parts of the range are covered in snow.
