This year’s Darling Wildflower Show is a special one – it’s the 100th edition, and it promises to be spectacular.
Between the 14th and 17th of September, visitors will be able to see the region’s floral biodiversity in all its glory at the Darling Golf Club, but flowers aren’t the only thing on the menu.
In fact, the show will host more than 100 food and craft stalls, as well as live entertainment, a range of workshops, and even a tractor ride to the wetlands at Oude Post – a treat usually closed off to the public.
“Kids will have a weekend of fun in the playpark area with entertainment ranging from face-painting to rides,” says the show’s website, “while adults can relax in the Mini Wine Route & Beer Tent.”
Being the centernary show, this year’s event will highlight the Wildlfower Society’s journey through the decades. The region’s flowers will be on display in a recreation of their natural habitat, and a special orchid display has been arranged as well.
Other activities include a shuttle that wanders past several of the town’s points of interest, and a vintage car and tractor display at the event. Meanwhile, workshop topics will cover everything from San culture to bee conservation.
Tickets cost R60 for adults and R40 for students and pensioners, while kids under 13 will get in for free. The money will go a long way to conserving the region’s floral kingdom!
