SANParks has confirmed that a number of its employees across the country have absconded from work over an as yet unresolved pay dispute.
The employees are all members of the Health and Other Service Personnel Trade Union of South Africa, which is demanding a 9% salary increase for its members. SANParks, meanwhile, is willing to offer 7%.
“This is after the conciliation meeting which was facilitated by the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) failed to resolve the salary dispute between the two parties,” says the parks authority.
Travelers need not stress, however, as SANParks has assured visitors that contingency plans are already in place.
“Guests travelling to any of our Parks should continue with their plans as we aim to ensure that they enjoy their stay,” says SANParks head of communications Janine Raftopoulos.
Raftopoulos does suggest that people planning on booking visits to SANParks reserves do so online, to ensure speedier service during the upheaval.
