SANParks says that the world-famous Knysna forest has been unaffected by the recent devastating fires, and that all its facilities remain accessible ahead of this year’s Knysna Oyster Festival.
Importantly, it says, Knysna’s estuaries is also ready to handle the influx of visitors to the town, which will bring a much-needed injection of revenue to the fire-gutted town.
Unfortunately, it notes, some fynbos within the national park was affected, and the popular Kranshoek Viewpoint and picnic areas were also badly damaged by the blaze.
According to SANParks, the Knysna forest is home to some 465 animal species, as well as more than 50 forest and fynbos communities.
The parks custodian is certain that the Knysna is ready to host another successful Oyster Festival, and that the Knysna portion of the Garden Route National Park is ready for any visitors that are interested in exploring some greenery in between seafood tastings.
