SANParks is encouraging the public to celebrate World Rangers Day with a 5km run around the PretoriaBotanical Gardens.
The run, to be held at 08:00 on the 29th of July, forms part of a larger event commemorating the day, which takes place annually on the 31st of July.
“This special day is universally dedicated to honouring the work of real life heroes - Rangers - extraordinary men and women who offer their time, services and - on certain occasions - even their lives, to protect and conserve the world’s natural and cultural resources,” says SANParks.
“The celebration will also be used to inform the public of the work that Rangers and Honorary Rangers do and their dire need for financial backing from regular sponsors.”
Honorary Rangers are SANParks volunteers tasked with garnering public awareness and support for the conservation and tourism authority. In fact, rangers from the Pretoria region will be hosting the event themselves!
Tickets for the race are on sale for R75,00 for adults and R30,00 for children, pensioners and students. They can be purchased at www.ticketpros.co.za.
