Disaster has struck the Kruger National Park once more as a SANParks employee has been trampled to death by an elephant.
Another employee has been seriously injured, says SANParks, and the circcumstances of the attack are under investigation.
“A group of SANParks employees were attacked by a herd of elephants in the Mooiplaas Section of the Park, near the Mopani Rest Camp,” it confirms. “The police and medical professionals were called to the scene to assist the two employees that were attacked.”
While SANParks has extended its condolences to the families of the victims, an investigation is still underway, although no further updates have been provided.
The attack comes days after footage showing a tourist cruelly taunting and teasing and elephant in the park was released.
The footage shows a driver chasing the elephant in his car, in an obvious attempt to agitate the large animal.
