Maldivian charter airline, Mega Maldives, is now eyeing a mid-year launch date for a new direct service between Malé and Johannesburg.
The carrier had initially hoped to operate a scheduled service on the route in time for the Easter holiday period.
However, Australia-based Commercial Development Manager, Vernon Nathan, reaffirmed the airline’s interest in the South African market and said talks with prospective wholesale partners were ongoing.
"Mega Maldives is still very interested," he explained, adding "besides the Maldives being a leisure destination, it is very well situated in the region, with convenient onward connections to Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia and China."
