The Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) says it is ready to open its new five-storey central terminal building at Cape Town International Airport on 7 November.

Workers are putting the finishing touches to the building which will see international and domestic departures processed via a single point.

The terminal boasts an array of retailers, fast food outlets and restaurants as well as 120 check in counters and a hi-tech surveillance room keeping an eye on the airport precinct via more than one thousand CCTV cameras.

It is but one of several construction projects undertaken at the airport since November 2006, with an overall price tag just over R2.3-billion.

ACSA Cape Town General Manager, Deon Cloete said it was a long time coming but their recent dry run showed they were ready to open to the public.

“All of our stakeholders were communicating with us very directly that they believe we are good to go, we are prepared; people have been trained, we have been resourced accordingly and properly in terms of what we want to do, so we’re good to go on 7 November.”
