Fly540 (also known as Five Forty Aviation) aims to set up a route network of domestic and regional cities using Harare as a hub, according to Zimbabwean media reports.
The airline's launch route in Zimbabwe will be Harare-Bulawayo-Victoria Falls, followed by regional flights from Harare to Lubumbashi, Lilongwe, Lusaka and Beira.
David Lenigas, Executive Chairman of Fly540's parent company LonZim, said the airline forms part of the no-frill's carrier's plan to extend its network across nine African countries by the end of 2009.
"Having observed the (Zimbabwean) market for over a year, Fly540 believes that now is the right time to commence operations. Not only does it make sound commercial logic, but it is an important step forward for Zimbabwe and helps stimulate economic recovery," he said.
Fly540 began operating from Nairobi in November 2006 and currently services three other African countries; Zanzibar, Uganda and Tanzania.
