Cheapflights has compiled the most important South African travel trends - based on nearly 600 000 hours’ worth of search data - in its annual Compass Report.
Among other things, the UK remains South Africa’s main travel destination, while data confirms that January, July and December are both the most popular and most expensive travel periods of the year.
On the other end of the spectrum, May is the cheapest month to fly in, with Dubai, Italy, the Netherlands, Thailand, the UAE and Hong Kong being the best choices for thrifty travellers.
Despite the economic uncertainty South Africa is currently experiencing, South Africans are still travelling abroad, possibly saving up to do so instead of travelling more frequently within the country”, says Andrew Shelton, MD of the company, “and clearly international tourists still view South Africa as a prime destination – both for work and play.”
