Could you give up everything you have right now to go on vacation? Could you quit your job, sell everything and embark on a 10-month journey of a lifetime?
Well, Catherina and Will Marks did just that, and guess what? They’re back home, but already saving up to do it again!
The management consultant and engineer couple took on the challenge of sailing around the Caribbean for nearly a year back in 2015, for what they say is half of what it costs to live in a San Francisco apartment.
Speaking to Islands.com, the couple says the journey gave them the opportunity to live a simpler, stress-free life, where they could spend all their time together.
The plan had been in place years ago, and they saved up for quite some time before purchasing a $37 000 yacht, while also budgeting around $4 000 per month for expenses.
Their journey took them from Tortola to the Lesser Antilles and Granada, before making their way home via Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and finally, Florida.
Their travels have been extensively chronicled on their website, www.MondayNever.com.
Their only advice to travellers looking to follow suit is to be friendly and outgoing, and to move slowly – ‘island time’ is a real thing!
