A white rhino badly injured a German tourist when it charged a group of visitors on a morning walk in the Kruger National Park, authorities said on Wednesday.
The wildlife enthusiasts, accompanied by armed rangers scurried for cover when the rhino - with a calf - charged the group on Monday, catching up with the victim who was hiding behind a rock.
She sustained injuries to her ankles and ribs, along with bruises to her body, and was airlifted to hospital.
"This was a very unfortunate incident, but we are glad that she survived and we wish her a speedy recovery" said Sithembile Mhlophe, the park's regional general manager.
The rhino only retreated after the rangers fired shots to scare it off, and Park officials said the cow was injured during the process.
