The Mount Nelson Hotel, a member of Orient-Express Hotels, Trains and Cruises, have announced plans to develop a spa on the hotel's nine acre property. Once completed in December 2007, the R16-million spa will offer visitors to Cape Town as well as local city residents a spa of unsurpassed luxury, pampering and attention to detail.

The architecture of the 570m² development will incorporate design features of the Victorian era creating a conservatory-like ambience of natural light, gentle tones of whites and creams and a soothing setting of potted flowering annuals, topiary and palms.

The impressive spa entrance will be constructed near the main swimming pool and where the present Isandla Spa Treatment Rooms are located, These will close at the end of March 2007. During the course of the construction period, in-room massages will still be available to hotel residents allowing guests to unwind prior and post air travel.

The new entrance will consist of a spacious welcoming, reception area with luxury retail and spa product showcases offering premier international and locally sourced brands and labels. To the left and right of the reception area, there will be very spacious ladies and gentlemen changing areas. Guests will be invited to disrobe and enjoy a sauna or steam bath as well the use of hot and cold plunge pools prior to the arranged treatment.

Romance will play a key note in the spa concept with four of the 10 rooms offering dual treatments for partners. These rooms will be very spacious, of which two will offer a choice of either outdoor private shower or an oversized indoor copper bath.

Stepping further into the spa, will be an idyllic resting area replicating a quintessential English conservatory room. Here, spa guests will be able to enjoy a herbal tea while taking in the atmosphere of trickling water and colourful blooms before being met by their therapist.

A staircase leads to a second floor of treatment rooms offering stunning vistas of Table Mountain and the hotel's landscaped gardens.

The spa's name, details regarding signature treatments and spa product lines will be announced in May 2007. Therapists will be sourced from South Africa and will undergo intense training prior to the official opening.

Other sensational and luxurious spas in the Orient-Express Hotels collection include the Kinan Spa at Maroma Resort and Spa in Mexico, the Maru Spa at Bora Bora Lagoon Resort in French Polynesia and the soon to be launched Linden Spa at Inn at Perry Cabin in North America.
