A giant yeti, spot prizes, magic shows and treasure hunts are some of the fabulous activities planned for kids this winter on top of Table Mountain.

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is offering an exciting winter special to all families — two kids ride the Cableway for free if accompanied by a full-paying adult.

The special is valid every day of the winter school holidays (June 27 - July 19) and on weekends and public holidays until September 15, 2009.

Once at the top of the mountain, children can enjoy fun treasure hunts as well as try to “Snap the Yeti”. Children who manage to photograph the elusive Yeti can show their snaps to the staff at the Dassie Den, the Cableway’s dedicated children’s play area, where they can win various spot prizes.

Two shows will take place daily inside the Dassie Den for the duration of the winter school holidays and will feature magic shows, pick-a-box, puppet shows and craft workshops.

“This value-for-money special is a fantastic opportunity for children to see and experience Cape Town,” said Sabine Lehmann, CEO of the Cableway company.

The Cableway’s Family Winter Special adult ticket price is R145, with two children under-18 travelling free (normal child rate R76). The special is valid on return fares only.

Visitors can buy refreshments and enjoy gourmet pizzas, hamburgers and sandwiches at the Table Mountain Café, located at the Upper Cable Station. The Shop at the Top in the old stone building stocks a variety of souvenirs and gifts to keep the entire family happy.

The famous red bus of Cape Town — the City Sightseeing Bus — is offering the same family winter special as the Cableway. For the price of one adult ticket, two children under-18 ride for free. Buses depart at 9.30am each day from the Two Oceans Aquarium making daily scheduled stops at the Cableway. Visit www.citysightseeing.co.za or call 021 511 6000.
