Facebook is expanding its Find Wi-Fi service worldwide on mobile devices, making it easier for people to stay connected on the go.
The service, initially rolled-out in selected regions last year, allows Facebook users to find Wi-Fi hotspots wherever they are. Hotspots are shared to the network by the businesses that host them.
Facebook has found that the service isn’t just useful for travellers in foreign and strange places – in fact, it’s helping people in areas with limited data availability.
The feature is relatively easy to find on the iOS and Android apps. Simply click on the “More” tab and look for “Find Wi-Fi”.
A map will pop up, showing you hotspots in your vicinity, and giving you more information about the businesses hosting them. It’s as easy as that.
The feature joins Nearby Places and City Guides in Facebook selection of tourism-orientated tools aiming to make it more competitive in a marketplace dominated by apps like Airbnb and TripAdvisor.
All three are available right now in South Africa. Get going!
