As any surfer knows: out on the waves, nature has right of way. This surfer, however, couldn’t get out of its way fast enough!
Australia’s 9 News Gold Coast reports that surfer Sam Yoon was body-slammed by a dolphin while riding the waves in Duranbah on the Gold Coast.
While most people would be terrified by the prospect of being whacked in the head with a tail-fluke, Yoon seemed absolutely thrilled.
Footage captured by an onlooker seemingly shows the animal desperately trying to avoid Yoon while still airborne. Unfortunately (or fortunately) for him, he ended up on the receiving-end of a genuine bottlenose belly-flop.
The incident has left the surfer with the memory of a lifetime, and probably a few bruises, too – but it didn’t stop him from getting back in the water.
“After it happened – you know what? They communicated with each other that every time I’m paddling – they’re coming – they’re supposed to jump, but they’re going away from me,” Yoon told 9 News.
