Facebook has launched a new way for travellers to get to know new and unfamiliar cities, and it’s great.
City Guides, reports TechCrunch, is a new feature available in the “More” section of the Facebook app, and compiles a list of locations your friends have visited.
Furthermore, reports the site, the feature can recommend sights and activities at your preferred destination.
Data accumulated from your friends’ ‘Check-Ins’ inform the feature’s suggestions. You can bookmark interesting places in each city, helping you plan your visit.
While Facebook hasn’t officially announced the feature yet, it has confirmed its activation, although limited.
“We’re testing a redesigned surface on city Pages that showcases information about your city,” the social network told TechCrunch. “This content already exists on Facebook, and during this test we’ll be centralizing it in a way that is more personalized and relevant to you.”
The feature will compete with other apps like Foursquare and Google Trips, but it remains to be seen whether Facebook will expand it to include smaller, non-city locations.
