Whether you want nothing more than to be lost in a vast wilderness of gigantic trees and endless golden plains or to be swept away by the rhythm of the urban jungle – Canada is destined to be your home. With its breathtaking geography and vibrant youth, Canada is a hotspot for travellers worldwide.

Because of SASTS’ long history in student cultural exchange programmes, they have successfully established a reciprocal relationship with the Canadian government. Imagine being given the freedom and flexibility to find yourself a job, anywhere in Canada, doing almost anything, at any time of the year!

You have the freedom to opt for one of the big cities like Toronto or Vancouver, or choose to work in the vast and varied Canadian countryside. During the winter, many of the students on the programme often find work on ski resorts – a popular choice for young people that hardly ever see snow.

And it won’t be all work. This programme is a great way to experience this amazing country while being able to support yourself as you travel. It’s supposed to be an exciting and fun cultural experience, so you should concentrate your job search in the casual employment market. Past participants have reported that their foreign work experience, even if only a casual job, played a far more important role than they would have imagined in their interview for a career job in SA.

The freedom of this programme allows you to do any kind of job, anywhere, for up to six months. If you have contacts in Canada you can pre-arrange a job before you leave home or you might prefer to wait until you arrive in Canada before committing yourself to any particular position or area.

Finding a job is a matter of timing and it depends on your approach. The best employment opportunities for participants are in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario, and if you are comfortable in the French language, Quebec. Participants are usually paid at least minimum wage, which is currently CAD$6/hour – not bad considering our current exchange rate.

This incredible opportunity is available to all full time tertiary students and recent graduates, between the ages of 18 and 30 and runs all year round.

So whether you are still studying, graduating or just want to take a break in between your studies, this is an ideal opportunity. For more information contact SASTS Working Adventures on (021) 418 3794 or e-mail: SASTS.
